OC Jails Get First Positive Covid-19 Patient

In today’s County of Orange press conference Sheriff Don Barnes revealed that Orange County jails have received their first positive coronavirus test from an inmate.

“As you may have been aware, yesterday we had one inmate that tested positive for covid-19, the coronavirus. Prior to this we have had in isolation some inmates that had exhibited flu like symptoms. The first eight of those tests came back negative, this is first positive test that we have received,” Sheriff Don Barnes said.

The positive patient is a male in his 40s who has been incarcerated since June of 2018. There are six other inmates awaiting test results as of today.

Sheriff Don Barnes stated, “This individual was in isolation prior and continues to be in isolation within our jail. We have six people currently in isolation waiting for responses of those tests as of this morning. ”

Sheriff Barnes reminded attendees that they have been on top of this situation since late January and continue to ramp up their strategies as the pandemic progresses.
