Fountain Valley School District (FVSD) will continue essential learning under a fluid basis. The FVSD received guidance from the California Department of Public Health to determine what activities are essential and non-essential during the covid19 pandemic.
FVUSD is enforcing measures to help prevent the spread of coronavirus through extensive cleaning, postponing non-essential school activities and inducing a 14-day quarantine for students traveling to certain countries over spring break.
The Orange County Healthcare Agency is not recommending closures at this time and OCHCA continues to share that the risk of infection in Orange County is believed to be low.

Increased Cleaning Measures
The FVSD statement said, “FVSD custodial staff already follow proper cleaning and disinfecting techniques on a daily basis. Additionally, we are disinfecting high-touch surfaces to mitigate exposure on a daily basis, too. Moreover, we are bringing in crews this weekend to do a more extensive cleaning. “
Postponed Non-Essential Activities
The district took guidance from The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and determined the following activities are non-essential and will be postponed:
- Field trips
- School assemblies
- Flag decks/ceremonies
- Professional development for staff
- Open Houses for Elementary and Middle Schools
- Community events
- Jog-a-thons/fundraising events
- Parent education nights
- Middle School Basketball Tournament
Spring Break Quarantine
Students who plan to travel over spring break to China, Iran, Italy or South Korea will not be allowed to attend school for 14-days. Students who have been exposed to covid19 will also not be allowed to attend for 14-days.
According to the FVSD website ” Many families are already changing or canceling plans for Spring Break. To slow the spread of coronavirus into the United States, CDC is working with state and local public health partners to implement after-travel health precautions.”
